ORc 2006.

Hello everyone. I was actually able to go to the ORc this year and to Hawaii, but I completely forgot to post about being gone, my apologies.

Here's the ORc bit, and I may post some stuff about Hawaii when I get the chance.

Friday was very dull. The only thing that saved it was Daniel Reeve, who was the official calligrapher for LotR. He had prepared a talk, and was quite funny. He was talking about how in one of the maps he drew, he made one of the lakes look like Wellington Harbor. He also found out that while he was writing in the Red Book, he had written it backwards, so he ripped out the pages and had a bookbinder fix it. He also showed a few pages that Elijah and Ian Holm had practiced writing on, and said that at the very end of shooting, Elijah asked him to write letters to the members of the Fellowship as if they were written by Frodo, and that the messages were quite funny, such as how Aragorn liked pipeweed and how Merry chased the Hobbit-lasses around a bit too much.

Saturday was lots of fun. John Noble was an absolute dear, he's really an awesome person. He talked about his upcoming projects, answered a lot of questions about Denethor, and talked about playing an evil character.
He was quite friendly at the photo-ops, and gave me a very cheery "G'day!"
Sean and Elijah were lovely too, but I noticed that Elijah seemed a bit distant and cold, which was disappointing. They talked about their upcoming projects, meeting each other, how Sean got on 24, and many other things which I forget at the moment.
I didn't get an Elijah photo-op (and I was rather glad I didn't), but Sean was quite lovely. I had letters to give to him, and he accepted them cheerfully. He gave me a nice hug at the end, which cheered me up.
The autographs were rather fun this year. I talked to John Noble about going on the Hobbiton Set Tour, Sean gave me a lesson in manners, Daniel looked through my LotR book, and Elijah...well, I got a jumbled mess of confusion from Elijah (my Dad made me have Elijah sign one of the pictures of him and I in Edinburgh; I was mortified. Of course, Elijah didn't remember, and so that got all mussed.)

Sunday was quite interesting. In a lovely way, of course. There was a charity brunch with Billy that we went to. I insisted we switch tables several times, and we ended up sitting next to two very nice ladies. I was disappointed to see that Billy was auctioning off a tan jacket of his (it was my first favorite jacket of his), and Dom was auctioning off a t-shirt. There were various other items, but everything was already so far out of my price range (Billy's jacket sold for $3,300, for example o.o) that I didn't even attempt to bid on anything. Billy came around 10:30 am, ate, and went around to the different tables. When he came to our table, he sat in the seat next to me (I was rather embarrassed that he spent most of the time talking to me), and he actually called up Dom. Dom wasn't there so Billy let me listen to Dom's answering machine. I couldn't hear it very well, but I believe it went something like "I. Have. Stolen. Some. Of. Your. Time." Billy discussed several things with me, including On a Clear Day, then he had to go.
Billy's talk was, not surprisingly, hilarious. He quoted "Brokeback Mountain" ("I wish I knew how to quit you" complete with Texan accent), sang a bit, talked about falling in love, discussed french horns, planting flags and painting caves, and tattos (among other things). He is quite a dear.
Just a bit after that, the Billy photo-ops started. I had written him a letter, and a friend of mine had written a valentine, so I gave those to him (and he promised he'd read them later), and scored a hug at the end.
After that, Mom and I rushed to the Sheraton for the luncheon with Miranda, John, and Daniel. I didn't actually converse with any of the actors ( had nothing to say and everyone else at the table had lots of questions), I just enjoyed their answers to the questions that were being asked.
Miranda's talk was nice. She was a bit awkward (but I wasn't about to blame her, this being her first convention and all), but quite friendly. I was glad to hear that all the questions that were being asked were intelligent (forgive me for my slight bitterness, but last year was filled with questions such as "Boxers or Briefs?" for the guys. In retrospect, I suppose it would be mildly awkward for the asker to ask anything like that to a lady, but who knows?), and I was especially happy when the lady we sat next to last year got a round of applause for her question (since she had arthritis in her legs, it was quite special for her to make an effort of standing in line, so the applause was lovely).
Miranda's Photo-op went well. She wanted to make sure I was in the picture before they took it (the officials had me standing at an odd angle at first), then gave me a nice "Goodbye!"
The autographs were, again, lots of fun. Miranda had no real idea of what to do, and when I gave her my picture she exclaimed "Oh look! That's me!" Billy gave me a nice personalized autograph (he asked me who to make it out to and my brain literally blanked out and I couldn't remember my name for a few seconds. But now I have a lovely little autograph in my Hobbit book reading: 'Laura, Lots of Love, Billy Boyd".)
Mom freaked out a bit when she talked to Billy. I can't remember what she said, but she had a nice little moment with him. XD

That's pretty much my ORc experience (I cut it a bit slim, I don't think you'd be interested in reading ALL my conversations with the actors, and looking at my autographs. Of course, if you ARE, just let me know.

)

I was able to take audio clips of most of their talks, so if anyone's interested just let me know, and I'll attempt to make a transcript (I'd upload them, but the file-sizes are fairly large [over 100 MB for Billy's, for instance], and I didn't want to kill anyone's computer.)
