I watched this movie for the first time last night, and I thought it was corny, dumb, and well......bad. I guess it was ok, it wasn't as bad as some movies I've seen, but I didn't like it that much.
now what I don't get is that a couple week s ago there was a 20th aniversary thing in Astoria, and people came from all over the world! Like from (I'm pretty sure) England, Scotland and even Australia! now maybe these people had nothing better to do and had some extra money to spend on plaine tickets, or maybe I'm wierd for thinking this is a dumb movie.
What do you guys think?

Well...I didn't think it was too bad. And you must remember, this was made in 1985, and so movies were made differently then they are now.
I read an article about that gathering (and one of my good friends went there), and I don't think there's anything wrong with it. To them, it's not a dumb movie, just like to us, Lord of the Rings isn't a dumb movie. There are many people who think LotR is dumb, as well as many people who think The Goonies is dumb. I'm sure many people can't comprehend why people would go to LotR conventions from England, Scotland, Australia, etc.
And I think it gives the actors confidence. I know Sean has rather fragile confidence in himself at times, so I'm sure this gathering and all this loyalty is really great for him, as well as the other actors, of course.
But that's just my opinion....

Yeah you're right.
My sister was saying that the people who really like it have probably been watching since they were kids, so it's a umm...... what's the word.......I guess kind of a good childhodd memory (if that makes any sense) and it has a special place in their hearts (ok I hope I'm not sounding to sappy)
And yes there are lots of people who don't like LotR and that's their opinion, and I don't really like the goonies, and that's my opinion. I don't care if someone LOVES the goonies, or if someone HATES LotR (although I may be a little confused lol) that's just their opinion ;D ;D
(and I'm REALLY sorry if I sounded like I thought the people who came to the celebration and live far away were nuts, because I don't, and I hope you didn't think I was insalting your friend either, I'm sure she/he's a fine person ;D)

i think the goonies was created for a younger audiance. i watched it when i was little little and i thought it was the best thing in the world then i watched on TV a couple months ago and i thought..... wow i cant belive that i used to like this  it is a good movie......i guess |

Yeah I probably would have thought it was great then too!
I think I thought Flipper was good and MAN has my opinion of that changed! and the same with some other movies.
I guess we just aren't a cridicel of movies when we're younger...

ya i guess. well when we are little little we see things differantly, we dont critizez as much as we do when we r older. An Flipper is a good movie..... but i havent seen that since.....a long time so maybe my oppinion has changed. i think im gonna go rent flipper *goes to rent Flipper*

And if you like flipper that's fine, but I don't and that's my opinion.
and my opinion of flipper sure did change in 5 or 6 years, lol.

And I recently re-watched Flipper, and I didn't think it was utterly awful, but I didn't think it was the best thing ever either.

well I just some parts of Flipper were ok and some were kinda funny.
It's probably my least favorite Elijah Wood movie that I've seen though, but I'vew only seen 8
Maybe I'm just to hard on movies....

Heh, I'm really hard on movies, so don't worry. I think it's terribly fun to criticize the different parts of movie-making.
I can't think of an Elwood film (besides LotR) that I enjoy from the beginning to the end. Of course, I have a horrible problem of being embarrassed about certain things, so...it's just me, no doubt.
Anywho....yea, Flipper's not the best.

Heh, no problem. I have a hard time remembering that the library is available for videos and those kinds of things myself, so you're not alone.
