I know this was already tried, but I decided to try this again, just for the heck of it.
Here are a few basic rules:
1. This, obviously, was created as a discussion place for Season 2 of Lost. Spoilers are welcome, but please let people know you're posting spoilers by giving some sort of warning (**SPOILER WARNING**-----**SPOILER ENDING**, for example).
2. Character bashing will be allowed, as long as you keep it in moderation. Please give a reason why you dislike the character, as I for one hate when people simply say "OMGZ! Sawyer is TEH MEANIES." and do not say why they think that is.
3. To continue on the character bashing bit, if you wish to disagree with someone who bashes a character you like, please provide a good arguement, and do not simply say "Sawyer is, lyke, TEH HOTTNESS." That is not a sufficient arguement, and it might cause everyone to get into a rather large mess.
And a few things I want to say (that aren't rules)
Pictures and theories are quite welcome. I'm sure we'd all be interested to hear the theories you [or someone else] has come up with.
Character discussion is also welcome.
Questions are absolutely welcome.
And last but not least, character appreciation is welcome.
Right, now that you all hate me, please have fun.
I'll kick off this board by putting in my two cents.
*possibly mild spoilers*
I have not been impressed by season 2 so far. J.J. Abhrams has failed, as a TV show creator, to give me any really good plot lines. The hatch was mildly interesting at first, but it quickly bored me. Sure, a mysterious hatch is always mildly interesting, but it served only to fill in the minutes during season 1, and now after it's few minutes of glory during the season premiere, it has basically just become another boring plot point. Yes, I have seen the current episodes, I understand that something will happen because of what Michael did, but it very well could be delayed for another 4 episodes.
I hope the writers for Lost finally grasp that they're becoming rather...predictable in their plotlines.
The current "other side of the plane" story line failed from the beginning (in my opinion, anyway). Of course I was delighted to discover that Rose & Bernard would, in fact, be together again. I was also delighted to find that they gave us a new likeable character, Mr. Eko.
But...that was pretty much where my happiness ended, for they also gave you another new character, Ana-Lucia. Now, I'm sure you've heard one too many comments about how Ana-Lucia is an awful character, and I'm sorry to add to your pain. I'll admit that perhaps if she could soften up just a bit...I would begin to like her. But the writers have created a wholly un-likeable character that, as of now, I despise. I understand she's had a hard life, she has a tragic past, etc, etc. I respect all of that, but it just seems rather...overdone. Have any of you ever heard of a "Mary-Sue"? The girl (or boy) who inserts themselves into a fandom they like (such as LotR) and gives themselves an angsty (sad) past while being able to interact with the characters they love (and perhaps fall in love with a character)? Yes, well, Ana-Lucia comes across as a Mary-Sue to me. She has an over-angsty past, and she's now interacting with characters (and now with one that she loves). The only thing that doesn't fit is the bit about "falling into a fandom".
And now...now she's apparently killed one of the characters I'd come to enjoy. But more about that in a moment.
*takes a deep breath* Right, I'm done for now with Ana-Lucia.
And, of course, I haven't forgotten about Libby, the girl who's name translates into one of my nicknames. She's mysterious, and I have a theory about her (which I will post later).
Last, but not least, I am upset with the writers about two more things.
First off, the person they killed off this season was a character who was rather dear to my heart. They had an interesting plot-line, and the person who played said character was also becoming rather dear to my heart. I feel that the writers simply threw the character away to make room for Ana-Lucia [and give Ana-Lucia another 'over-angsty moment'], which is one more reason why I am bitter towards her.
And second? I despise what they've done with Walt. Loathe. I never really...enjoyed Walt. He wasn't scary to me, as many people said he was, I just never got a feeling for the character, so I could never really "love" him. Nevertheless, I was disturbed at the finale. One of the things that writers do to annoy me is to take the children away from the parents. It either makes me mildly sad, or it annoys me. They did the latter. Now, besides the fact that he's turned into some wet, odd...thing, it's only created a whole bunch of silly lines for the character of Michael. I, for one, am tired with all the "WALLLLLLT!!! WHERE'S WALLLLLLLT? WHERE'S MY BOYYYYYY?" lines. Now they have to either kill the kid off, kill Michael off while he valiantly tries to rescue Walt, rescue Walt, rescue Walt and attempt to kill off Walt/Michael in the process and they'll have one last moment for Walt to say "I love you, Dad" before Michael/Walt dies, or rescue Walt but he'll have life changing angst and personality problems. Whatever they do, it has to be something utterly obvious. Joy. /sarcasm.
**spoiler end**
I'm sorry, I'm not the largest Lost fan, and I also enjoy writing my heart out.
